Question: |
Why has my CTC autosampler just bent it's syringe plunger?
Answer: |
There are a couple of potential reasons for this, but the primary reason is that the valve, that the autosampler is injecting into, is blocked or has excessive back pressure. When the syringe plunger driver unit pushes against the plunger to dispense, it cannot and the driver motor then misses steps. Then when the syringe withdraws from the valve and re-homes the syringe plunger it will pull the plunger out of the syringe body. The result of this is that when the autosampler tries to complete the next injection, typically the plunger does not relocate into the syringe body and this is when plunger bending occurs.
